The Revd Richard Wood has become a Chaplain to TSS Fearless, the Worcester Unit of the Sea Cadets. Richard is a Priest at St Nicholas, Warndon and Ronkswood, Worcester, but will be known as Padre or “Bish” while he is serving as Chaplain!

SLt (SCC) Unit Commander Jon Hunt, RNR, recruited Richard following a community event last year and was delighted to welcome a new “Bish” again after a long period with the role unfilled. Richard is equally pleased to be “on board” to serve a young peoples’ intergenerational community with such a clear purpose and character. It helps that Richard loves the water and that he quite likes wearing the uniform!

The Sea Cadet Corps are the volunteer cadet branch associated with the Royal Navy. SCC Chaplains are Royal Navy Reserve (RNR) Officers, volunteering with the aim to “Serve the Sea Cadet Corps by nurturing people, giving teaching and leading spiritually”. In practice the role centres very much on the simple availability of the Chaplain to both Cadets and Volunteer staff around the SSC Corps Values. Being traditionally based on Christian values, these lend themselves to the promotion of moral character through ideas such as service, courage and loyalty.
