A special service to celebrate 150 years of the Mothers’ Union will be held in the Cathedral on Tuesday 24 November at 2pm.

Bishop Hugh will be preaching at the service and we will be led in song by the Wilden Community Choir and also by the children of Year 5 from St George’s C of E Primary School in Worcester. It is hoped that Mothers’ Union banners from branches both past and present will be brought to the Cathedral to be displayed, representing the significant impact that the organisation has had on our diocese over the years. The Lord Lieutenant will also be in attendance.

Current President of the Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Worcester, Jill Crofton said:

“The Mothers’ Union has acheived a huge amount both locally and nationally over our 150 years supporting vulnerable families; campaigning for justice and uniting our diverse membership in prayer and purpose. We want to celebrate all that has been done and hope that people from parishes across the Diocese will come to the Cathedral to be part of that celebration as we continue to look forward to the role of the Mothers’ Union over the next 150 years!”

Alongside the service, displays of the Mothers’ Union past history and present activity in Worcestershire and Dudley, as well as across the world, will be able to be viewed in the Lady Chapel and outside the Quire during the fortnight beforehand, and on the day.

All are welcome to this special service. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
