The event brought together nine local School Councils, with both primary and secondary school students discussing the climate emergency, focussing on air pollution and Net Zero carbon initiatives. Spencer Morris, Deputy Director of Education; Lee Westcott, Net Zero Programme Manager and Ian Hill, Net Zero Project Manager all spoke to the students.Diocesan net zero officer, Lee Westcott standing behind a table of students as he talks to them

The students from various schools shared their thoughts on climate issues and participated in an engaging environment-themed Bingo game created by one of the School Councils. This fun and informative activity sparked important discussions among the students on these pressing global challenges.

Spencer said: “The interaction between the students and speakers was fantastic. All speakers received a warm welcome and we were thoroughly impressed by the knowledge, enthusiasm, and active participation of the students.”

All the students showed great passion for change, initiative and a desire to discuss important issues including the Net Zero Carbon work happening in the Diocese, taking away suggestions to explore the Let’s Go Zero and Count Your Carbon resources highlighted by the NZC team.

The Net Zero and DBE team would like to thank Headteacher Ellie Game and the staff at Oldswinford CofE Primary School for hosting us. They hope to be able to participate in more of these events across the Diocese in future.
