Tewkesbury Abbey Theology Forum Tyndale Exhibition

Details

  • Date: August 12
  • Time:
    10:00 am - 5:00 pm
Poster of exhbition

This exhibition tells you all you want to know about William Tyndale, and also includes a full colour facsimile of his 1526 New Testament.

The exhibition is in Tewkesbury Abbey itself and is open whenever the Abbey is open.  William was son of Gloucestershire and his translation efforts were contrary to the wishes of the authorities in England.  Indeed even possession of his English New Testament was punishable by death.

It is perhaps ironic that when the King James (Authorised) version of the English Bible was eventually published, about 80% of the English text is a repetition of the text in Tyndale.

The exhibition is free, though donations to defray expenses are very welcome.  An excellent book about Tyndale and his work is on sale at Tewkesbury Abbey shop.  We do hope to see you there.

The exhibition runs daily from 17 June to 13 August when the Abbey is open.
