Mission

How does the Church goes about its mission in the 21st century? How can we share the good news of the gospel in a largely secular society?

These are pressing issues facing the Church of England and the Diocese of Worcester today.

The aim of the Board for Mission is to assist churches to engage with God in His mission of love to transform the whole human life and creation.  To achieve this aim the Board works with and towards the Diocese’s Six Priorities of the Taylor Report

The Six Priorities are:

  • Worship God
  • Rid the World of Poverty
  • Share the Gospel
  • Build Inclusive Communities
  • Help People to Faith
  • Care for the Earth

The Board’s task is to encourage study, theological reflection and good practice in the areas of:

Board for Mission

Evangelism

Ecumenism

Interfaith issues

World development issues

It does this through Task Groups, Deanery Workers and links with the Mission Agencies.

(click on the titles above for more information).

There are also three task groups in the area of partnership links covering the diocesan companion link with the Anglican Diocese of Peru, the ecumenical link with the Propstei of Magdeburg-Halberstadt in Germany and an Africa group encouraging interest and parish links with Africa.

The Board is made up of a Chairperson, Administrator, Representatives of the Bishop and Dean, Task Group Chairs, who with the Chairperson form an Executive group, Deanery Workers and Mission Agency Representatives.

The Board meets three times a year. One meeting is residential and focuses on the development of the deanery workers, one provides input on relevant topics from an outside speaker and one concentrates on Board business.
