Bishop Martin, in his role as Acting Bishop of Worcester, has announced that four people from across the Diocese have been appointed as Honorary Canons in the Cathedral.
Honorary Canons form a bridge between the Diocese and the Cathedral and meet to reflect and advise on the life of the Cathedral. Appointments are made by the Bishop of Worcester in consultation with the Dean.
The new Canons are Kath Davis, Co-Warden of Readers and LLM in Pedmore and Wollescote (just outside of Stourbridge), Julie James, Rector of Berrow w Pendock, Eldersfield, Hollybush & Birtsmorton and Curate in Charge of Longdon, Castlemorton, Bushley, Queenhill w Holdfast (in the south of our diocese), Tim Reid, Diocesan Director of Education and Andy Todd, Diocesan Secretary.
Bishop Martin said: “I am delighted to appoint these people as Honorary Canons. They all give outstanding service to the Church and will help to strengthen the links between the Cathedral and the wider diocese. We are looking for a date to install them into their individual seats in the Quire over the next couple of months.”
The College of Canons, including those newly appointed, gathered together this week to worship and share fellowship together.
Dean of Worcester, Stephen Edwards, said: “It was a joy to welcome members of the College of Canons to the Cathedral for worship, lunch and conversation. The Canons are an important part of the Cathedral’s presence in the wider Diocese, celebrating our mission and ministry and providing important links with parishes and diocesan life. As the mother church of the Diocese, the Cathedral is a place where parishes and chaplaincies are prayed for day by day, and where all are welcome as part of the community. The Canons, honorary, lay, ecumenical and monastic, ensure that this link is maintained as a resource for the Diocese as we make disciples, share hope, and transform communities.”
