Holy Innocents’ Church Foley Park is hosting a special performance of Crystal’s Vardo by Suzanna King.
Crystal’s Vardo is an inspiring and important live theatre production, which tells the story of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller history and culture through time. Crystal travels through time on an extraordinary journey to discover a wealth of colourful characters, humour, music and storytelling.
The performance is part of the national celebration of Gypsy-Roma-Traveller History month in June, and seeks both to celebrate the history, culture and contributions of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller people, and also to raise awareness of the continuing racism and discrimination faced by these communities. The event is funded by the West Midlands Racial Justice Initiative, and alongside the organisation Gypsy-Roma-Traveller-Friendly Churches is also facilitating a schools’ version of the show in a local primary school.
Author Suzanna King said:
“Myself and the team are very excited to be coming to Kidderminster and perform at Holy Innocents’ Church. Crystal has a very important story to tell, which I hope will resonate with everyone. There will be an opportunity to ask questions after the performance, and we hope that you will share Crystal’s message far and wide. Crystal’s Vardo was written in response to the continued bullying and discrimination that young people like Crystal experience in school every day.”
Team Vicar, Laura Betson said:
“I am really looking forward to seeing this performance and learning more about the history and culture of GRT communities. It promises to be both interesting and informative, but also a hugely entertaining night. We hope to welcome as many people as possible to enjoy the performance, and are grateful to the West Midlands Racial Justice Initiative and GRT Friendly Churches for making it happen.”
Crystal’s Vardo is open for one night only on Tuesday 23 June at Holy Innocents’ Church, Foley Park, DY116LA. Doors open at 6.30pm for a 7pm start. The performance is FREE to attend, suitable for ages 7+, and everyone is welcome. Refreshments will be available, and there is some parking on site.
Come and experience 1200 years in one hour!
