The benefice of Inkberrow with Cookhill and Kington & Dormston recently held their harvest service at a local farm in Kington. Over 30 people joined the service which included a guided tour, plus plenty of singing using a portable sound system and speakers.
Vicar Ian Perry reported: “It was great to see the farm’s robotic milking where the cows come in themselves and the robotic milking device cleans the teats and then measures and attaches the milking device. The cows then have the luxury of robotic back scratchers!
“I spoke of being Kingdom people of faith hope and love in a challenging culture and highlighted the struggles are farming community are having with climate change. We had one child with us, and I was able to pass on the £5 which we were recently given at clergy to be generous with. I asked him to receive it with an open hand and not a clenched fist, as with that open hand we can hold tightly onto God who refuses to let us go.
The boy told me after the service that he was going to donate the £5 to a Macmillan Coffee morning that his Mum was hosting as I had asked him to be generous with it! I also spoke of making sure we spend enough time with God who is the same yesterday as today and tomorrow. I also touched on Bishop's Rowan's talk about AI and consciousness.
“I did say to the farmer we were not liable for any decrease in milk yield due to our singing!!”
