The Diocesan Environmental Group, commissioned by the Bishop and Diocesan Synod, produced the Environmental Strategy back in 2008. Many of its key recommendations remain important targets, but now have much greater urgency as the climate crisis escalates. The Group continues its work of championing and promoting environmental issues.
In particular, our tasks are:
to raise awareness of and call for action on environmental issues, through newsletters, conferences, prayer diary and the website
to work with others in the Diocese to develop strategies and action towards becoming net zero carbon by 2030 (following the General Synod decision in February 2020).
following Diocesan Synod's decision in 2019 to take the necessary steps towards becoming an Eco Diocese, to monitor and ensure compliance
to promote and support the adoption of Eco Church in parishes across the Diocese
